TRAI issues Mobile Number Portability Regulations (TID)
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has today issued the “Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability Regulations, 2009”. As decided by Government, MNP shall be implemented wef. 31st December 2009 in Metros & category ‘A’ service areas.


Indian telecom ready to cross 500 million mark (TID)The number of telephone subscribers in India increased to 494.07 Million at the end of August-09 from 479.07 Million in July-2009, thereby registering a growth rate of 3.13%. With this, the overall Tele-density in India reaches 42.27 while broadband subscriber closes to 7 million.

Samsung partners Tata Docomo for Android handset (ET)Korean mobile handset maker Samsung today said it has partnered with Tata Teleservices' GSM brand Tata DOCOMO for launching its first Google-powered Android handset 'Galaxy' in India. Samsung, which plans to launch more Android handsets in India later this year.

TCS wins Rs 140-cr deal from AP (HBL)Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has won a Rs 140-crore contract from the Andhra Pradesh Government to establish the largest SWAN.The project will be implemented over the next five years on a ‘build, own, operate, and transfer’ model, according to a TCS release.

SMS services in 22 Indian languages soon (HBL)Soon mobile users will be able to get SMS-based services in their own language.For, the 3GPP, the global standards organisation that defines standards for GSM-based mobile services, has approved a move to include 22 Indian languages in mobile telephony standards in October.
 
Nokia Siemens Networks wins Austrian 3G network upgrade contract (C-N)
Nokia Siemens Networks says that it has won a contract from T-Mobile Austria to modernise its 3G radio access network by mid-2010. Under this project, Nokia Siemens Networks Services team is implementing 2,500 base stations nationwide.

Huawei wins bulk of Singapore NBN contracts (TA)
Huawei has taken the lion’s share of the first infrastructure contracts for Singapore’s S$1 billion ($708.1 million) NBN project. Alcatel-Lucent has also been awarded the OSS/BSS system integrator contract.
